West Brookfield Youth Soccer

Programs

WBYS offers a fun environment for children of ages 3-18 to enjoy soccer in both the spring and fall.  To determine your child's age group click HereBelow is an outline of each Age Program:

Under 4 (U4)   This in-town program is mainly for 3 year olds, but might be appropriate for some younger inexperienced 4 year olds.

In the fall, this 45-50 minute WBYS clinic will create an age-appropriate learning environment for the kids to have fun with a soccer ball.  It will be run on Saturday mornings with an additional (optional) clinic during the week.  A trained activity leader and assistants will use engaging activities that allow each child to play with their own ball.  The goal of this program is to get the kids comfortable with a soccer ball and initiate a love for the sport of soccer by making this a very enjoyable experience for these young children.

In the spring, this clinic will be once per week and may be combined with the U5 program below. It should not interfere with baseball.

Under 5 (U5)   This in-town program is mainly for 4 year olds, but might be appropriate for some younger inexperienced 5 year olds.

In the fall, this 50-55 minute WBYS clinic will create an age-appropriate learning environment for the kids to have fun with a soccer ball.  It will be run on Saturday mornings with an additional (optional) clinic during the week.  A trained activity leader and assistants will use engaging activities that allow each child to play with their own ball followed by a short small-sided game to introduce the “real game” of soccer.  The goal of this program is to get the kids comfortable with a soccer ball and the “real game” of soccer while initiate a love for the sport of soccer by making this a very enjoyable experience for these young children.

In the spring, this clinic will be once per week and may be combined with the U4 program above or U6 program below.  It should not interfere with baseball.

Under 6 (U6)   This in-town program is mainly for 5 year olds, but might be appropriate for some very young 6 year olds.

In the fall, this 55-60 minute WBYS clinic will create an age-appropriate learning environment for the kids to have fun with a soccer ball.  It will be run on Saturday mornings with an additional (optional) clinic during the week.  A trained activity leader and assistants will use engaging activities that allow each child to play with their own ball followed by a small-sided game to introduce and improve their understanding of the “real game” of soccer.  The goal of this program is to get the kids more comfortable with a soccer ball; WBYS staff will start to teach basic dribbling and kicking techniques and make this a very enjoyable experience for these young children.

In the spring, this clinic will be run once per week and may be combined with the U5 program.  It should not interfere with baseball.

Under 8 (U8)   This in-town program (may travel to Warren or North Brookfield) is mainly for 6 and 7 year olds.

In the fall, kids will be placed on balanced teams based on evaluations (if possible) and have one practice per week with their coach.  The coach will use engaging age-appropriate activities that allow each child to develop basic dribbling, passing, receiving, and shooting techniques followed by small-sided games for the remainder of the practice.  There will be an additional (optional) practice open to all U8 players with pick-up style small-sided games so they have the opportunity to participate and become more aware of the game they are growing to love.  Games are on Saturday mornings in a 4v4 dual-field format without goalies so kids can participate in 100% of the game (scores are not kept).  The goal of this program is to build a technical foundation with lots of opportunities to use those skills learned in small-sided games.

In the spring, this 75 minute WBYS clinic will create an age-appropriate learning environment for the kids to have fun with a soccer ball.  It will be run once a week on a Friday night and should not interfere with baseball.  A trained activity leader and assistants will use engaging activities that allow each child to develop basic dribbling, passing, receiving, and shooting techniques for the first 25 minutes followed by pick-up style small-sided games for the remainder of the session so the kids can just have fun playing soccer.  The goal of this program is to just let the kids have fun while becoming more comfortable playing the “real game” of soccer.

Under 10 (U10) through Under 18 (U18)   This travel program participates in the Midland Area Youth Soccer League (MAYSL, www.maysl.com).  Teams are separate for girls and boys.  Teams are separated by ability levels based on evaluations.  There are typically two practices per week and games are typically on Saturday mornings for U12 and Saturday afternoons for U10.  Game scores are kept.  These programs run in both the spring and fall.  Teams for U14, U16, and U18 players are formed in conjunction with Warren Community Youth Soccer Association if there are enough players registered.
